De-pigmentation care with aromatic oils

September 25th, 2017

Absorption of beauty cosmetics through the skin (percutaneous absorption) does not mean that all ingredients absorb into the body at similar rates. There are various reasons for this, such as the skin structure and application method due to gender and ethnicity, the area of skin to be applied to etc.

Regarding the essential oil, Still, it is thought that about 10% of the components is taken into the blood to act inside the body.

How much of the oil absorbs into the skin is dependent on the molecular weight and structure of the ingredients.  The essential oil component limonene has a low molecular weight and is thus a component that is easily percutaneously absorbed.

Citrus essential oils such as lemon – which is the main ingredient of limonene – are known as percutaneously absorbed essential oils.

Today, let’s look at how the vitamin components of lemon essential oil can help with pigmentation problems such as spots!

Lemon essential oil to make the essence for spots more effective

In one experiment, the degree of percutaneous absorption of vitamins (A, B6, C, E) applied via lemon essential oil with a dilution ratio of 10% was observed. It was found that the absorptivity of the vitamins was: 5.8 times (Vitamin A), 4.1 times (vitamin B6), 3.4 times (vitamin C), 9 times (vitamin E). The study concluded that Limonene, the main component of lemon essential oil, was affecting this.

This result suggests that lemon essential oil acts as a carrier medium to enhance the absorption of other vitamin ingredients, when applied to the skin together.

The application of lemon essential oil with a dilution ratio of 10% is a heavy burden on the skin, so it is necessary to consider the safety aspects of such an action. However, this result suggests that using lemon essential oil in future de-pigmentation cosmetic products could be effective, due to the skin brightening effect of the vitamin C it contains.

I tried adding 1 drop of Lemon essential oil to the Environ essence called “C-quence energising masque”, containing ascorbic acid, to try and promote the brightening effect of the skin!

Add 1 drop of lemon essential oil to 5.5 ml Environ Energising masque containing ascorbic acid and try it!
