Aromatic blend for June | 2 rosy aromas

June 7th, 2019

Speaking of Britain in June ….
It is the season of Rose!

In London, the Rose Garden at Regents Park is a delight in summer.

Two rose extraction methods

In aromatherapy there are two types of rose oils, depending on the extraction method : rose otto and rose absolute.

Rose absolute extracted by the solvent extraction method

The solvent extraction method involves immersing rose petals in a petroleum-based organic solvent to extract the fragrant ingredients. The essential oil produced by this method is called “absolute”, and in addition to rose the aroma of jasmine can also be appropriated.

The advantage of doing it this way is that it is possible to extract a more authentic floral scent component. On the other hand, the extraction also includes trace amounts of petroleum-based solvents. This contradicts the aromatherapy concept of favoring natural forms, as it can be a concern for adverse effects on the skin such as allergic reactions.

In this respect, experts agree that it is best to say there are both pros and cons of this extraction method.

In my personal opinion, it should generally be fine for those with good health, no skin allergies, and high immunity, especially when using very low concentrations of absolute diluted in vegetable oil etc.

Rose absolute contains a large amount of phenylethyl alcohol, which is said to give a richer rose scent.
It has an effective anti-anxiety effect, and can even give you euphoric feelings.

Rose Otto extracted by steam distillation

Another rose oil, Rose Otto, is extracted by steam distillation.
It contains more citronellol and geraniol.
Along with Rose Absolute, you can benefit from anti-anxiety and anti-depressant effects, but it also has a calming effect on the skin, giving us an anti-bacterial action, skin elasticity recovery and so on.

As you can see, the two types of rose oil have a slight difference between the aroma and the effect, so it is better to use them according to your specific purpose.

We recommend that you use Bulgarian roses for rich, high-quality scented flowers.
