How To Treat Shoulder Tension

May 4th, 2014

Hello!

Continuing on from our previous blog about the causes of shoulder tension, I would now like to tell you about how we here at Rikyu can best treat this condition!

If you are suffering with shoulder tension only, I would recommend our 30 minute Wabi-Sabi holistic massage treatment.

This treatment combines several different techniques, including Swedish massage, deep tissue massage, and acupressure. I would start by massaging the spine area to relax the nervous system, which helps  the muscles to accept pressure and make them more receptive. After that I would move on to the shoulder blades, neck area, head then finally the arms. By the end of the treatment the stiffness in the shoulder area will be released, and hopefully your discomfort will be eased!

If you are suffering with headaches as well as shoulder tension, I would concentrate on the upper back area before moving on to the neck and head. Of course, migraine sufferers could find that this treatment actually makes their condition worse! I will be talking about solutions for migraines in a future blog – however, for the time being I would recommend applying a cold compress to the back of the neck or at the temples for temporary relief.

So, I hope you have gained some useful information about shoulder pain in these blogs! Next in our series of the Top 10 health conditions we deal with at Rikyu – back pain!
