Cleansing is one of the most important steps toward keeping the skin clean and beautiful. Proper skin cleansing should be performed according to your personal needs – the climate where you are living, which season it is, your life environment etc. This is because the amount of dirt the skin picks up is very much affected by the amount of sebum and sweat that is secreted, which itself changes according to the external environment.

Two cleansing methods – “double cleansing” and “wipe cleansing”

Generally speaking, in summer or on rainy days with high humidity the amount of sweat and sebum produced in the skin increases. When the skin becomes sticky and rough as a result, the double cleansing method is the perfect solution. The method uses two different cleansing products – a facial cleanser, and then a face wash, done twice. The first cleansing is for removing makeup and dirt on the skin. The second cleansing is for clearing all oily traces from the surface of the skin in order to keep it clear and refreshed.

On the other hand, in winter or on days you spend in a room with air-conditioning or central heating on, the skin becomes dry. In this case a facial wash is not necessary. Instead, wipe off the skin with cotton pads soaked in a toner after the first cleansing. With this method your skin is cleansed without taking off too much facial oil, which helps to prevent further dryness in the skin. This process is also recommended for sensitive skin, as such skin is prone to dryness.

Proper double cleansing method

  1. Squeeze a dab of cleansing milk into your palm (about the size of a milk bottle top) and apply gently to the whole face to remove make-up and any dirt.
  2. Wash off with warm water.
  3. Take a small amount of face wash and bubble it in your palm. Then apply this to the whole face, cleansing all oily traces from the skin and pores.
  4. Wash off with warm water and blot the skin dry with a clean face towel.

Note :

  • In regards to the best cleansing agents, cleansing milk is easy to use and acclimatises well to all types of skin. However, you may want to check which products work in accordance with your skin condition and type. Generally speaking, gel cleansing is good for oily skin. Cleansing cream and balm are often recommended for dry and mature skin, as they have better hydrating properties. For water-proof mascara or heavy makeup removal, cleansing oil would be the most appropriate.
  • Avoid any face washes that leave the skin tight after cleansing. To remove too much oil from the skin can actually stimulate the sebum production that causes an imbalance in the skin’s pH levels, thus producing more greasiness. Remember – the point of good facial cleansing is to take off any dirt while still keeping the skin hydrated.

washing face

  1. Squeeze a dab of cleansing milk into your palm (about the size of a milk bottle top) and apply gently to the whole face to remove make-up and any dirt.
  2. Wash off with warm water and blot the skin dry with a clean face towel.
  3. Gently remove any traces left on the skin with damp cotton pads infused with a toner.

Note :

  • Any hydrolats such as rose water are a great choice as a toner.
  • Do not rub the skin roughly with the cotton pads. It can damage the skin. Soft and gentle organic cottons are recommended for the skin.

By adjusting to the skin environment you will be able to master these two methods accordingly!
