Aromatherapy for managing weight loss

March 7th, 2017

A successful diet requires you to balance eating, exercise and the demands of mind and body, as well as reducing extraneous fat and toning your muscles.

The role of aromatherapy in dieting can be a great help with suppressing appetite, improving body shape, and relieving the stress that all too often accompanies such an endeavour.

So let’s take a look at which fragrances can help you get thinner!

A scent that helps with slimming just from inhaling?

Lime – Experimental results show that essential oils have a function to suppress appetite and contribute to weight loss. The main component of citrus essential oil, Limonene, activates immune cells and is thought to enhance the lymphatic function, thus promoting excretion of waste products. In addition, since limonene sympathetically stimulates the nerves, the metabolism of the whole body increases. Citrus essential oils such as lemon and grapefruit are considered effective aromas for dieting as well as lime. Grapefruit, especially, contains an ingredient called Nootkatone that encourages fat burning, and grapefruit essential oils containing trace amounts of this ingredient can be selected for aroma blends to help with diets.

Peppermint – There is data that this essential oil has a function to suppress appetite. There are many gums and toothpastes available containing the scent of mint, so when you want to control your appetite it may be better to brush your teeth or chew mint gum. In addition, peppermint essential oil is prescribed in the UK as an oral medicine, and it is also used for the treatment of digestive system diseases, especially IBS (irritable bowel syndrome). It is an excellent oil to use for improving the digestive system, especially in and around the stomach area.

Fennel and patchouli – The fragrance of these oils shows interesting data suggesting they can prevent weight gain from what you eat. They are believed to enhance the workings of the liver and intestines, and to promote the excretion of waste products.

Ginger essential oils often have tonic and antioxidant actions, and are excellent in warming and activating the body. Gingerol, which is also the source of ginger’s unique scent, helps to promote blood circulation and improve the function of the bowel. Also, data results show that ginger essential oil helps to improve hepatic injuries and lipid accumulation in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. improve hepatic injuries and lipid accumulation in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

In view of this, ginger essential oil is a good help with attaining a flatter stomach by reducing visceral fat and speeding the metabolic action.

Lastly, coconut oil contains many medium chain fatty acids that promote fat burning, thus making them effective for dieting. Even if you can’t get the same action from topical application, it encourages the formation of collagen and elastin. This oil has a great penetrative effect on the skin, so it is good to use for body massage oil when you are on a diet.
